Rosewood Aktion Club Donates Blankets to Family Crisis Center

Rosewood Miracle Workers Aktion Club wanted to give the gift of warmth this holiday season. So the club, comprised of more than 30 members from Rosewood Services, conducted a nearly month-long blanket drive. They concluded the drive on Tuesday afternoon by donating approximately 25 blankets and quilts to Great Bend’s Family Crisis Center.

Aktion Club started its drive at the beginning of the month, announcing to the public that its members were accepting new blankets, quilts, homemade blankets and monetary donations. With monetary proceeds, members purchased additional blankets for the donation. Prior to Tuesday’s donation, all the blankets were taken to Rosewood Studio where each was embroidered with the Rosewood Services logo.

“We really appreciate the donation because we give out a lot of blankets,” said Laura Patzner, director of the Family Crisis Center. “They go to the children who come to the Family Crisis Center. The blankets not only provide warmth to the children, they provide comfort to them as well.”

Rosewood Aktion Club is an affiliate of the national Kiwanis organization that promotes service in action for people with developmental disabilities. There are 12,000 members worldwide. The local club allows Rosewood clients to be actively involved in the community and to positively impact the lives of others.

“Aktion Club is such a wonderful program,” said Rosewood AKTION Club adviser Malinda Hatfield. “Our members enjoy helping others and being involved in community participation. Activities like the blanket drive help to provide purpose in their lives because they know they really do contribute and make a difference in the lives of others within our community.”
