Rosewood Rodeo with Free Family Events Coming to Expo III Saturday

Great Bend Expo III arena will be filled with free family entertainment on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., with events revolving around the 11th Annual Rosewood Rodeo. The public can enjoy children’s activities and games, face painting, wagon rides and an appearance by Randy the Clown at the arena, located two miles west of 10th and Patton Rd.

The rodeo grand entry is scheduled for 10 a.m. Four therapeutic rodeo events will be held for Rosewood Services riders, followed by an award ceremony at approximately 4 p.m.

Rodeo Exuberance – Rosewood Ranch participant Jere McCutchen enthusiastically competes in the flags category during the annual Rosewood Rodeo last year. McCutchen was accompanied by Rosewood Ranch manager Eric Hammond and Ranch staff member Jeanna Gowdy.

A special appearance is scheduled by the Rosewood Drill Team, which will perform a routine to a medley of songs. That performance will take place at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Nacho “Man” – A young mustachioed-painted Rodeo visitor gets ready to enjoy a tray full of nachos during the Rosewood Rodeo last year.

The public can stay for any or all events. Concessions are available during the rodeo. And for $5 each, people are invited to stay for a celebration barbeque dinner at 5 p.m.

During the rodeo, the public can participate in a silent auction, with proceeds from the auction going to Rosewood’s non-profit Roots & Wings Foundation. The foundation provides therapeutic, educational and recreational opportunities to people in need who have developmental disabilities.

More than 35 auction items are up for bidding, including large-ticket items like a Traeger Wood Pellet Tailgate Grill, a Detergent-Less Laundry System, and a $100 gift certificate. Also available for bidding is a sterling silver pendant, sterling silver earrings, and high-end women’s sunglasses, plus many more interesting items. Approximately 15 local businesses donated merchandise for the rodeo’s silent auction. Judging from previous auctions, there will be excellent deals for the merchandise, with all bids closing at 4 p.m.

The annual rodeo is one of the most important days of the year for equine-therapy riders from Rosewood Services who practice their riding skills at Rosewood Ranch on a weekly basis throughout the year. The ranch is a full-working horse ranch near Pawnee Rock where people with developmental disabilities learn to ride and care for approximately 50 horses.

Major sponsors of this year’s rodeo are: Adams, Brown, Beran and Ball; Alterna Care Home Health; Community Bank of the Midwest; Fuller Industries; Eagle Radio; Great Bend Appliance Furniture & Sleepsource; Great Bend Regional Hospital; Gibbs Electric; Heartland Homecare; Heartland OB/Gyn; Keller Real Estate & Insurance Agency; Kustom Floor Designs; Marmie Motors & Marmie Ford; Moeder Plumbing, Heating & Air; Office Products Inc. (OPI); Straub International, and Walmart – Great Bend. Also contributing is Animal Medical Center.
