Easter Basket Workshop Brings Hoppin’ Good Time to Children

Easter Egg-citement – Smiles abound with young attendees who hung out last Saturday with the Easter Bunny at the “Hippity Hop Easter Basket Workshop,” held at Rosewood Activity Center in downtown Great Bend. This is the sixth year that Rosewood AKTION Club has hosted the pre-Easter children’s event.

Nearly 200 children experienced a hoppin’ good time last Saturday (April 9) during the “Hippity Hop Easter Basket Workshop,” held at Rosewood Activity Center in downtown Great Bend. This year’s workshop experienced the largest turnout in the event’s six-year history. The “Easter Basket Workshop” is hosted annually by Rosewood Miracle Workers AKTION Club.

“We are very happy with the success of this year’s workshop,” said Rosewood AKTION Club sponsor Frankie Pelster. “Every year, this event seems to grow. To see the smiles on children’s faces every year is absolutely priceless. Our AKTION Club members enjoy being a part of such a fun event.”

During the workshop, children created their own Easter baskets, decorated Easter eggs, and participated in other fun activities, like coloring Easter pages. The Easter Bunny made a special appearance, and children took photos with him. This year, families have the option of taking free cell phone photos, or paying $3 to receive a printed photo with the Easter Bunny. There was also a donation request of $5 per basket.

The donations helped cover the cost of materials for the workshop, and additional proceeds help pay for future community projects organized by Rosewood AKTION Club. Pelster stressed the importance of community giving, which allowed participation for all children.

“Because of the generous giving by many, we are able to provide this workshop to all area children who wish to participate,” explained Pelster. “Our Easter workshop has become a tradition for many families; and we’re hoping to continue this tradition for years to come.  We’re already planning for next year’s workshop.”

Rosewood AKTION Club is an affiliate of the national Kiwanis organization that promotes service in action for people with developmental disabilities. The area club allows Rosewood clients to be actively involved in the community and to positively impact the lives of others.
