Bill Limits Legal Services For People With Disabilities

January 11, 2016

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Rosewood Supporters,

Tammy Hammond
Executive Director
Rosewood Services

There is an important bill in the U.S. Congress trying to be passed.  Buried deep inside of this bill is legislation that will, if it passes, severely limit the ability of our clients having access to affordable legal counsel and representation to protect their rights to services.

Congressional Bill H.R. 2646 would accomplish this by placing with financial providers - such as the MCOs - the authority to refuse consumer access to funded legal services. That includes legal services, which may be necessary to hold MCOs accountable for practices leading to loss of services or eligibility.

I ask for your help in stopping this legislation. Time is of the essence, as final drafting of this bill is currently taking place.  There is a link below to a webpage that has information about this bill, and also allows you to enter your zip code, which will automatically pull up a sample letter written to your congressman.  It will take about a minute to write and send something in support of people with disabilities.

It is important we take the time to do this.  If we allow legislators to take this right from our clients and loved ones, it may never be regained, and could have serious financial consequences for those we care about, as the face of services continues to change.

There is more information about this matter in the link below that provides more detail.

More importantly, please join our campaign to Protect PAIMI by entering your zip code to take action. Click this link to do so.

Thank you for your consideration of this serious issue.

Sincerely,

Tammy Hammond, Executive Director
